About Us

M. Brett Debney is the founder and Lead Counselor for Apsara Counseling Services Inc, offering an array of Counseling Services. Brett received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Wesleyan University and her Masters degree in Marriage and Family Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG).

Brett's career in the mental health field began while living in San Francisco, California, where Brett was a volunteer on the San Francisco Suicide Prevention Hotline. She completed an extensive training program to qualify to work with SFSP, and learned that she cared deeply about helping others to attain emotional stability, improved mental health, and general wellbeing.

Brett's formal dedication to the counseling profession started when she and her husband Tony moved to North Carolina, in order for Brett to pursue a Masters Degree in Marriage and Family Counseling (MS) and Specialist in Education (EdS) degrees at UNCG. Brett completed internships with Family Services of the Piedmont, and the Moses Cone Health Systems Antenatal Unit, Hospice Unit, and Behavioral Health Center. Brett graduated from UNCG with honors in December of 2002.

After graduation, Brett worked at Moses Cone Behavioral Health as a counselor working with adults, adolescents and children. This experience enabled Brett to sharpen her skills and gain a wide body of experience in group and individual therapy. Brett feels fortunate to have had the opportunity to do such important work.

Brett is licensed by the North Carolina Board of Licensed Professional Counselors as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), and is member of several professional organizations and associations including the American Counseling Association (ACA), the American Dance Therapy Association (ADTA), the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC), the International Association of Marriage and Family Counselors (IAMFC), and the Association for Specialists in Group Work (ASGW).

...And looking to the future

Brett is currently an alternate route student in Dance/Movement Therapy, pursuing her Dance Therapist Registered (DTR) credential. Brett has been working with children and adults using movement as a therapeutic tool, and is committed to Dance Movement Therapy as a constructive and important technique.
